Findon Vet and the Orangutan Adoption Project

Findon Vet and the Orangutan Adoption Project 1

The Orangutan Project, or TOP, is a wonderful initiative that the Findon Vet Surgery is very proud to be a part of.

Many orangutans become orphaned, mainly as a result of habitat loss, and it is expensive to care and rehabilitate these dear primates.

I have personally flown over the forests of Sumatra and witnessed the near enless palm tree plantations that stretch for tens of kilometres at a time. I have backpacked with my wife, Ali and our two children, through Malasia and again sat on a local bus looking with dismay as we would pass more palm plantations that would stretch for over a hundred kilometres.

Findon Vet and the Orangutan Adoption Project 2

Adopting an orangutan is easy! We have seriously cute orangutan toys, whose arms can link around your neck or anything in your home...or backyard jungle  ... that are for sale and every ten orangutan toys sold pays for the care and rehabilitation of one orangutan for one year!

They make perfect Christmas birthday presents, with many given to children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and the reponse has been overwhelming with these children becoming extremely interested in the plight of this wondrous but highly endangered species. They have ended up at 'show and tell' at school, and shown off to any and everone they can...and with great pride! It seems to me that every toy orangutan sold, hundreds of people of all ages get to hear about their critical situation, and this networking is helping spread the knowledge that we are all able to help in some way.
